Change, Why is it so hard?
Change is hard, because we get too comfortable, but change is necessary, if you want to find real happiness in your life. Trust me, I’ve been there, but it is worth it, to be just a bit uncomfortable.
We live our lives in our own particular way and we have our routines that move us through our day. But do you ever find yourself pointing at sections of your life or yourself and saying, “I wish this were better!” Seeing the imperfect in ourselves is normal, after all, none of us are perfect. But there are parts of us that might need to be changed in order to achieve a greater level of happiness. So, how do we change? This is the first question we need to ask ourselves before we can actually change.
First off, we have to want to change. If we don’t want to change then nothing will be accomplished. Whether it’s to become a healthier person or to be more organized, a desire to change- truly change- is necessary.
Another step is to change the way we think. I know what you’re thinking; “changing my mindset is impossible!” and if you look at it that way, then it is. You don’t have to change the entire way you think, just pick one thought process and work to change it. For example, if you are trying to be more organized, it doesn’t help to criticize yourself for any stray papers you find laying around. Instead, focus your thoughts on how you can organize those papers so they will look neat and orderly. Taking out our own critical inner voice, even on a small scale, will help us toward our ultimate goals.
A helpful approach is to set small, easily attainable goals for ourselves. Going back to being organized; don’t focus on an entire room, rather, pick one section (a desk, bookshelf, etc.) and work to keep that one section tidy. Change can be hard for all of us. Moving out of our comfort zone is never easy. We will trip and get discouraged, but the most important thing is to not give up! With effort and work we can all change for the better and achieve an increased level of happiness and satisfaction in our lives.
